Headquarters, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), General Orders No. 1878 (February 15, 1969)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Executive Order 11046, 24 August 1962, takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Sergeant Marvin E. Hasenak (ASN: US-54388072), United States Army, for heroism, not involving participation in aerial flight, in connection with military operations against a hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Sergeant Hasenak distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action on 5 November 1968, while serving as a Squad Leader with Company C, 2d Battalion (Airmobile), 7th Cavalry, during a search and clear mission. When his unit became heavily engaged with a numerically superior enemy force, Sergeant Hasenak exposed himself to the intense hostile fire as he crossed an open area to administer first aid to a wounded comrade. After evacuating the casualty, Sergeant Hasenak again exposed himself to the hostile fire to place accurate suppressive fire on the enemy positions forcing the insurgents to retreat. His display of personal bravery and devotion to duty was in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
