The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Captain Marvin Nelson Lindsey (AFSN: 46204A), United States Air Force, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force over North Vietnam on 29 June 1965. On that date, Captain Lindsey was assigned a mission to obtain pre-strike and bomb damage assessment photography of vital target areas. Flying at low altitude in adverse weather, Captain Lindsey displayed a high sense of duty and a complete disregard for his personal safety when he pressed on to complete his photo run although his aircraft had been severely damaged by ground fire. The gallantry and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Lindsey have reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
