The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry) Waldemar M. Mueller (ASN: 0-31533), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 411th Infantry Regiment, 103d Infantry Division, in action on 28 November, 1944 in France. During the daylight house, Colonel Mueller, as Battalion Commander, displayed superb leadership in maneuvering his troops, enabling them to force the enemy continually out of position. He conceived a plan for the capture of Barr, France, and not content with this, he led his troops through the streets of the city, returning sniper fire which constantly threatened his life. For more than a mile and a half he exposed himself to enemy fire, remaining at the head of his troops. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
