Headquarters, I Field Force Vietnam Artillery, General Orders 212 (September 13, 1968)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Executive Order 11046, 24 August 1962, takes pride in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” (Posthumously) to Sergeant Donald P. Reamer (ASN: US-52687659), United States Army, for exceptional heroism in connection with military operations against an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam on 21 August 1968, while serving as the Squad Leader of Battery A, 4th Battalion, 60th Artillery. During the early morning hours, the fire base perimeter of Battery B, 6th Battalion, 84th Artillery was attacked concurrently with heavy mortar and rocket fire. Sergeant Reamer immediately mounted his track and directed accurate and effective fire on the enemy positions materially reducing the effect of the initial attack. The enemy assaulted the perimeter defense with a heavy volume of mortar and automatic weapons fire breaching the perimeter and directing small arms fire against the open turret of his duster. Disregarding his own safety, Sergeant Reamer continually exposed himself to enemy fire by supplying ammunition to the loading trays and directing fire until his gun received a direct hit by a B-40 rocket which placed his weapon out of action. Sergeant Reamer’s valorous actions and exemplary performance of duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
