The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Airman’s Medal to Staff Sergeant Glenn Richard Gerhart, United States Air Force, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life at the Pointe West Mobile Home Park, Apple Valley, California, on 27 April 1974. On that date, Sergeant Gerhart found two children floating face down in the Park swimming pool. Fully clothed and wearing heavy boots, Sergeant Gerhart unhesitatingly jumped into seven feet of water to reach the children. He succeeded in removing them from the pool and successfully revived them using mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Sergeant Gerhart reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
