The President of the United States of America, authorized by Executive Order 11046, 24 August 1962, takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Private First Class Jeffrey J. Motyka, United States Army, for heroism in connection with ground operations against a hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Private First Class Motyka distinguished himself by valorous actions on 23 April 1970 while serving in the Republic of Vietnam. Suddenly encountering intense hostile fire from an undetermined location, Private First Class Motyka, from his lead position, exposed himself to the enemy barrage to locate the aggressors’ position and direct his unit’s fire on them. His personal bravery and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
