The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Colonel Lewis J. Kolb (AFSN: FR-3474), United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States while assigned to 1005th Special Investigations Group (IG) as Commander, OSI District 62, South Ruislip Air Station, England; as Commander, OSI District 70, Wiesbaden Air Base, Germany; and as Deputy Director of Special Investigations (USAFE) Wiesbaden Air Base, Germany, from 7 July 1964 to 4 July 1967. Through dynamic displays of professional competence, adroit diplomacy and expert leadership, he materially strengthened relationships between the Office of Special Investigations and host country investigative agencies. His influence over OSI operations was considerable and resulted in the highly effective mission accomplishment of OSI in Europe in support of national security. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Colonel Kolb reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
