The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Roger D. Clark, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a C-130B Aircraft Commander near A Luoi, Republic of Vietnam on 1 May 1968. On that date, Major Clark was engaged in air dropping supplies of ammunition vitally needed to support a major offensive in the A Shau Valley. Demonstrating the highest degree of professional skill, Major Clark overcame the hazard represented by surrounding mountainous terrain, which was totally obscured by clouds, to position his aircraft on the final approach to the drop area. Then, although exposed to heavy hostile fire while flying at an extremely low altitude and airspeed, he maintained the steady course necessary to insure the successful delivery of his essential cargo. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Clark reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
