The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Colonel Clifton P. Ohman, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as the Aircraft Commander of a C-123 at Phan Rang Air Base, Republic of Vietnam, on 19 September 1970. On that date, Colonel Ohman flew a tactical airlift mission in support of Allied operations in South Vietnam. In three separate incidents, he was confronted with serious in-flight emergency situations. Despite the difficulty and hazards involved, he was able to successfully complete the mission without aircraft damage or personal injury to crew or passengers. His superior airmanship and determination were instrumental in the successful completion of this highly important mission. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Colonel Ohman reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
