The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Airman’s Medal to Staff Sergeant Stephen J. Spear (AFSN: AF-17629267), United States Air Force, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life at the Talkeetna Trailer Court, 4020 McPhee Avenue, Anchorage, Alaska, on 8 October 1968. On that date Staff Sergeant Spear entered a flaming house trailer, in complete disregard for his own life, and rescued the two children who were sleeping within. By his courageous action and humanitarian regard for his fellow man, Staff Sergeant Spear has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
