The President of the United States of America, authorized by Executive Order 11046, 24 August 1962, takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Specialist Quentin C. New, United States Army, for exceptionally heroic achievement while serving as a driver of the protective service detail of Al Anbar Provincial Police Transition Team Ramadi, Iraq, on 29 March 2008. Specialist New, disregarded his personal safety by opening the driver’s side door of a burning M-1151 up armored HMMWV after it was hit by an improvised explosive device. He then climbed into the burning truck and disengaged the combat lock on the rear door. As the fire began to intensify inside the vehicle, Specialist New took a fire extinguisher from a nearby Marine officer’s feet so that they could remove him from the vehicle. Specialist New and another soldier were then able to reach into the burning vehicle through the flames to rescue the officer from the vehicle just before his seat burst into flames. Specialist New’s actions are in keeping with the finest traditions of military service and reflect distinct credit upon himself, the 603d Military Police Company, the 716th Military Police Battalion, 18th Military Police Brigade and the United States Army.
