The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain George W. Acree, II (AFSN: FR-58830), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as the pilot of an F-105 aircraft over North Vietnam on 3 March 1968. On that date, Captain Acree was flying the number two position in a flight of four F-105 aircraft into an area defended by numerous surface-to-air missiles, and hundreds of radar controlled guns, in order to employ a new Iron Hand tactic. Three surface-to-air missile sites terminated all activity as a direct result of this mission, thus greatly weakening the North Vietnamese defenses. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Acree reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
