The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain George W. Acree, II (AFSN: FR-58830), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-105 Pilot in Southeast Asia on 21 March 1966. On that date, Captain Acree, piloting an F-105 aircraft, engaged in a bombing and strafing attack against an estimated fifty or more hostile vehicles heavily loaded with supplies bound for the Republic of Southeastern Vietnam. His outstanding accuracy in the face of withering anti-aircraft fire destroyed many of the tricks and trapped the remaining vehicles to prevent their escape from later flights. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Acree reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

Headquarters, 7th Air Force, Special Orders G-1711 (June 8, 1968)The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain George W. Acree, II (AFSN: FR-58830), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as the pilot of an F-105 aircraft over North Vietnam on 3 March 1968. On that date, Captain Acree was flying the number two position in a flight of four F-105 aircraft into an area defended by numerous surface-to-air missiles, and hundreds of radar controlled guns, in order to employ a new Iron Hand tactic. Three surface-to-air missile sites terminated all activity as a direct result of this mission, thus greatly weakening the North Vietnamese defenses. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Acree reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

Headquarters, 7th Air Force, Special Orders G-1850 (June 24, 1968)The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Second Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Third Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain George W. Acree, II (AFSN: FR-58830), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-105F pilot near Hanoi, North Vietnam, on 28 February 1968. On that date, Captain Acree flew a surface-to-air missile suppression mission supporting four F-4 aircraft as they attacked a vital barracks area five miles from Hanoi. Although subjected to attack by eight hostile missiles and under extremely adverse weather conditions, Captain Acree disregarded his personal safety to remain within range of concentrated hostile defenses to aggressively attack missile sites surrounding Hanoi and contributed to the safe return of all friendly aircraft. During this mission Captain Acree collected tactical information critical to the successful employment of a new weapon system. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Acree reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

During this period, his distinguished leadership, exceptional foresight and unrelenting devotion to duty were key factors in the development of comprehensive forces, armament and training programs that strengthen the combat readiness of total Tactical Air Forces vital to the security of the United States and Allies. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Colonel Acree reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
