The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Colonel George W. Acree, II (AFSN: FR-58830), United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Chief, Tactical Division, Deputy Director for Operations and Training, Directorate of Operations and Readiness, Deputy Chief of Staff/Operations, Plans and Readiness and as Chief, Armament Division, Deputy Director for General Purpose Forces, Director of Operational Requirements, Deputy Chief of Staff/Research and Development, Headquarters United States Air Force, from 21 October 1974 to 12 October 1978. During this period, his distinguished leadership, exceptional foresight and unrelenting devotion to duty were key factors in the development of comprehensive forces, armament and training programs that strengthen the combat readiness of total Tactical Air Forces vital to the security of the United States and Allies. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Colonel Acree reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
