The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Joe Bryce Whitt (AFSN: FR-54118), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an RF-4C Reconnaissance crew member in Southeast Asia on 30 January 1967. On that date, Major Whitt flew a classified night reconnaissance mission deep in hostile territory. Despite adverse weather, terrain, and known aircraft malfunctions, Major Whitt acquired complete coverage of his assigned target giving valuable information to friendly forces. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Whitt reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
