The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Lowell Elwin Shearer (AFSN: FR-27038), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-105 Pilot in Southeast Asia on 14 December 1965. On that date, Major Shearer was a member of a flight of fighter-bombers operating in support of friendly ground troops under pressing attack. Despite low clouds, limited visibility and intense hostile ground fire, Major Shearer delivered his ordnance with such devastating effectiveness that the friendly ground troops were quickly able to regroup and regain the initiative. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Shearer reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
