The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Lowell Elwin Shearer (AFSN: FR-27038), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-105 Pilot in Southeast Asia on 14 December 1965. On that date, Major Shearer was a member of a flight of fighter-bombers operating in support of friendly ground troops under pressing attack. Despite low clouds, limited visibility and intense hostile ground fire, Major Shearer delivered his ordnance with such devastating effectiveness that the friendly ground troops were quickly able to regroup and regain the initiative. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Shearer reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Colonel Lowell Elwin Shearer (AFSN: FR-27038), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-4C Aircraft Commander in Southeast Asia on 31 January 1970. On that date, Colonel Shearer was flying a combat support mission against known unfriendly ground forces. Making multiple attacks in the face of intense hostile ground fire, Colonel Shearer destroyed the hostile position, seriously crippling the supply capability of the unfriendly forces. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Colonel Shearer reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
