The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Elmer Gordon Pahre (AFSN: FR-23475), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as AC-47 Navigator in Southeast Asia on 25 June 1966. On that date an extremely fluid ground situation involving friendly and hostile forces around a Special Forces Camp under attack, called for precise close air support. The pinpoint navigation and precise location of hostile forces by Major Pahre allowed his aircraft commander to place a devastating volume of fire on the hostiles without endangering the friendly forces. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Pahre reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
