The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Captain (Medical Corps), [then First Lieutenant] Howard R. Eddy, United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy on 26 February 1947, at Keesler Field, Mississippi. With utter disregard for personal safety, he assisted in the successful rescue of the trapped crew members of a burning aircraft that had crashed on the field. His courageous actions were highly commendable and reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
