The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Lieutenant Colonel (Cavalry) William A. Sussman, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States while serving with the 6th Armored Division from 24 December 1944 to 8 May 1945. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Colonel Sussman and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Army. (This award supersedes the award of the Bronze Star Medal to Lieutenant Colonel Sussman for service from 27 February to 5 April 1945, published in General Orders 82, Headquarters, 6th Armored Division, 7 May 1945.)
