The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Colonel (Corps of Military Police), [then Lieutenant Colonel] Lewis R. Sussman, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States from April 1941 to March 1945. (This award supersedes the awards of the Commendation Ribbon and Commendation Ribbon (First Oak Leaf Cluster) to Colonel Sussman by letter from the War Department, 21 May 1946.)
