(UNCONFIRMED – Citation Needed): Sergeant First Class Joseph T. Garganus, United States Army, is reported to have been awarded the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in connection with military operations against the enemy while serving with Company H, 160th Infantry Regiment, 40th Infantry Division, in Korea. He ran over 70 yards across fire-swept slopes to aid a wounded comrade. Despite heavy enemy fire he remained at the side of the wounded man for several hours, and later ran through a hail of fire to bring the stricken soldier to safety. He later returned to the scene of action to retrieve the body of a dead comrade.
