Andrew Frierson graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1924. He competed with the American Equestrian Riding Team in the 1932 and 1948 Olympics. He retired with disability in 1949 as a U.S. Army Colonel.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Colonel (Cavalry) Andrew Allison Frierson, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as Commanding Officer of the 11th Cavalry Group (Mechanized), in action against the enemy in Germany, during the period of 13 December 1944 to 7 January 1945, while in command of an active defense sector in holding a substantial portion of the large front held by the 102d Infantry Division. Colonel Frierson continuously displayed outstanding leadership and gallantry. His calm judgment, sound tactical decisions, and continual presence in the front line combined to inspire officers and enlisted men under his command with the result that his mission was successfully accomplished. Colonel Frierson’s proven leadership qualifications, sound tactical judgment, and devotion to duty, reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
