Headquarters, 25th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 29 (January 17, 1951), Amended by G.O. 31 (1951)
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Robert B. Gough, Sr. (ASN: 0-1337292), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company F, 2d Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army. While Captain Gough’s company was providing cover for the withdrawal of an infantry battalion in the vicinity of Ipsok, Korea, on 29 November 1950, it was subjected to a determined attack by a strong hostile force. Headless of the heavy action, he manned a machine gun mounted on a tank and delivered deadly fire on the enemy. Although his position became a prime target for the hostile automatic weapons, he refused to yield until his company had displaced to more tenable positions. Captain Gough’s dauntless courage and staunch devotion to duty greatly facilitated the orderly withdrawal of his unit and reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the United States Army.
