The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Master Sergeant Arthur Burke (ASN: RA-32041375), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. During a withdrawal of Company C, near Sangn-Yong, Korea, on 25 July 1950, Master Sergeant Burke found that an element of the unit had been cut off by intense hostile fire. Master Sergeant Burke’s valorous initiative and leadership in saving he lives of 17 of his men are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
