The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry), [then Second Lieutenant] Dudley T. Bunn (ASN: 0-61902), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 29 November 1950, near Majon-ni, Korea, Lieutenant Bunn was leading his platoon when Company A was ambushed. With utter disregard for his personal safety he reorganized his platoon, while under intense enemy small arms fire, in order to cover the consolidation of the company. Then he directed the fire of his platoon to such an extent that the enemy fire diminished permitting heavy machine gun and recoilless rifle support to be brought forward and employed, further, Lieutenant Bunn personally retrieved a machine gun from an exposed position returning it to action to provide covering fire for one of his squads that had been pinned down. His prompt actions enabled the squad to withdraw to advantageous positions. The outstanding, fearless leadership and gallantry of Lieutenant Bunn reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
