The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Henry D. Buelow, United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the 45th Reconnaissance Company, 45th Infantry Division. Private Buelow was with his platoon advancing against a numerically superior enemy on 27 January 1952. When the platoon was halted by a barrage of enemy mortar and rifle fire, Private First Class Buelow moved directly into the enemy fire in order to reach the most troublesome hostile emplacements. Though directly exposed to enemy fire, he managed to get within 40 yards of one enemy bunker and destroy it. He then rushed a second bunker and by firing his rifle and throwing grenades, he silenced it also. Still not through, Private First Class Buelow stayed on the hill offering covering fire until all of his comrades had withdrawn to safety. Only then did he leave his position and rejoin the unit.
