Headquarters, 24th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 647 (1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Phillip B. Brumenshenkel, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 3d Battalion, 5th Regimental Combat Team, 24th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy near Taridong, Korea, on 4 August 1951. As an automatic rifleman, Corporal Brumenshenkel was stationed at a strategic position defending the ridgeline near his company when their emplacements were hit by heavy small arms and mortar fire from a numerically superior enemy force. He constantly exposed himself to heavy enemy fire in order to rain the maximum amount of destructive fire on the enemy and made several trips for ammunition in order to maintain the fire. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
