The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Jimmy Brown (ASN: RA-14357349), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the Medical Company, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 23 – 24 June 1951, near Sobang-san, Korea, Company C was subjected to a fierce counterattack by a strong enemy force. When Private Brown, an aidman attached to Company C, 1st Battalion, saw one of the squad leaders fall to the ground wounded, he fearlessly crawled approximately 150 yards across exposed terrain to reach the wounded man and succeeded in evacuating him to a safe position. Later during the engagement, he observed another infantryman bleeding profusely from a wound in the arm. Private Brown again unhesitatingly exposed himself to heavy enemy fire, crawled to the stricken soldier’s side, administered first aid, and then evacuated him to a sheltered position. Throughout the ensuing action, Private Brown courageously moved through the area to alleviate the suffering of his wounded comrades. Private Brown’s gallantry and deep concern for the welfare of his fellow soldiers reflects the highest credit upon himself and the military service.
