Headquarters, 3d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 195 (June 19, 1953)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Bruce A. Brown (ASN: RA-12118610), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On the night of 21 May and during the early morning hours of 22 May 1953, a raiding party composed of elements of the 1st Battalion, had the mission of engaging and destroying the enemy in the vicinity of Pung-Myon, Korea. As the friendly elements were advancing toward enemy-held territory, they suddenly encountered a large hostile force. Sergeant Brown, Intelligence and Reconnaissance section chief, immediately dispersed his men and directed their line of fire into the charging enemy ranks. Throughout the action, he frequently braved the enemy barrage to supply his men with ammunition and encourage them to hold their position. While the battle progressed, he noticed a wounded comrade lying in an exposed area. Sergeant Brown, with complete disregard for his personal safety, left his covered position and moved the wounded man to a covered position where he could be given first aid. Sergeant Brown’s outstanding gallantry and devotion to duty reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
