The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class [then Sergeant] Donald E. Brockmeier (ASN: RA-15259915), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company E, 2d Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. During a company attack near Changnyong-ni, Korea, on 22 September 1950, Sergeant First Class Brockmeier’s squad came under heavy hostile automatic weapons fire which inflicted several casualties among the squad. Although wounded himself, Sergeant First Class Brockmeier moved forward, heedless of the intense action, to administer first aid to his men. He then manned his machine gun and, although again wounded, provided such effective covering fire that the unit was able to rout the foe and secure the objective. Sergeant First Class Brockmeier’s exemplary courage and devotion to duty to his men are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
