The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Colon B. Britt, Jr. (ASN: 0-57806), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 24th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. During the night of 31 August – 1 September 1950, a large hostile force attacked the battalion command post where Lieutenant Britt was serving. AL; though the enemy had approached from three sides and were subjecting the are to intense, accurate fire, he remained at his post in the operation section to supply information to regimental headquarters. Even after he was wounded, he continued his mission, consenting to evacuation only after communications had been completely disrupted. Lieutenant Britt’s staunch devotion to duty and exemplary valor reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the United States Army.
