The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal William Bradwell (ASN: RA-13353982), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company K, 3d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 21 May 1951, as Company K was attacking an enemy-held hill near Koyang-san, Korea, one platoon was pinned down by the intense hostile fire. Realizing the seriousness of the situation, Corporal Bradwell, an automatic rifleman in the pinned down unit, voluntarily rose to a standing position and, braving the withering fire, advanced upon the foe firing his weapon. While so engaged, he killed four enemy soldiers, wounded several more, and caused others to seek cover long enough for his platoon to gain fire superiority, advance, and finally secure the objective with a minimum of casualties. The gallantry, courage, and aggressiveness displayed by Corporal Bradwell reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
