The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Paul Gardner Bradford (ASN: RA-11203478), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company I, 3d Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 23 May 1951, near Tokko-ri, Korea, Company I, 3d Battalion, occupying defensive positions on Hill 860, was fiercely attacked by a numerically superior enemy force. Private Bradford, a member of a machine gun unit, obtained a rifle and voluntarily left his covered position to join a squad of riflemen deployed to flank the foe. Joining them in their assault, he fearlessly advanced laying down a heavy volume of accurate fire into the hostile troops. Heedless of the enemy fire being directed upon him, he aggressively pressed forward until mortally wounded. The inspirational courage and gallant initiative displayed by Private Bradford reflect the highest credit upon himself and the military service.
