The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal William M. Boxley, United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with Company B, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, in action on 11 February 1951 near Yangpyong, Korea. During an attack against the firmly established enemy positions on Hill W-19, Company B was temporarily pinned down by automatic weapons and small arms fire. Corporal Boxley voluntarily rushed forward, completely exposed to the foe, shouting and firing his weapon in an effort to divert their attention and permit his platoon to advance. Displaying outstanding aggressiveness, he charged the nearest enemy emplacement, killing the occupants and sending the supporting infantrymen scurrying for cover. His courageous act so inspired his comrades that they pressed forward and quickly secured the objective. Corporal Boxley’s gallantry and devotion to duty reflect great credit on himself and the military service.
