The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Master Sergeant Louis T. Bowling (ASN: Ra-20265793), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company G, 2d Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 31 July 1950, when in the vicinity of Haman, Korea, the company was subjected to an attack by numerically superior hostile forces. Master Sergeant Bowling courageously moved from position to position in order to encourage his men and direct their fire. When withdrawal had been ordered, he personally supervised the movement of each man from his position to the route of withdrawal. Master Sergeant Bowling’s courageous leadership and outstanding devotion to duty reflects great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Army.
