The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Chief Pharmacist’s Mate Harry W. Jarvis, United States Navy, for extraordinary heroism while serving as Corpsman attached to the Fifth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action at the front during the attack on Vierzy, France, on 18 July 1918. Chief Pharmacist’s Mate Jarvis, voluntarily and of his own initiative, in association with two other Pharmacist Mates, organized and established advanced aid posts following closely upon the first wave of the attacking troops and evacuated wounded, rapidly and successfully under most harassing fire.
