The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal [then Private First Class] Stanley A. Blye, Jr. (ASN: RA-13271725), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company D, 3d Engineer Combat Battalion, , 24th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy near Sannaeji-ri, Korea, on 5 April 1951. As he advanced in the attack with Company G, 5th Infantry Regiment, the company was halted by an anti-personnel minefield to its front. When he moved his mine clearing detail into the field they were subjected to accurate fire from enemy mortars. Increasing mortar fire forced his men to take cover but he, realizing that the entire unit would suffer in their exposed positions or be forced to withdraw, continued to work at his hazardous task without regard for his own safety until he had cleared a path through the minefield. By his courageous tenacity and leadership he enabled the advancing infantrymen to continue the attack and inflict heavy casualties on the enemy. He assisted in carrying wounded form the battle area to an evacuation point in spite of a continued barrage of enemy fire. Corporal Bly’s outstanding gallantry and exemplary leadership reflect the greatest credit on himself and are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army Corps of Engineers.
