Headquarters, 3d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 351 (August 13, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Master Sergeant [then Sergeant First Class] Glenn Bledsoe (ASN: RA-43055087), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company F, 2d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 24 May 1951, F Company’s Second Platoon was attached to a task force of tanks with the mission of securing a vital road junction near Habae-jae, Korea. As the column moved along, one of the tanks struck a mine which wounded five of the infantrymen in Sergeant Bledsoe’s platoon. The enemy immediately opened fire from nearby emplacements with such intensity that the wounded men could not move to safety. Sergeant Bledsoe, seeing their peril, rushed to their assistance and proceeded to administer first aid to all of the stricken men, heedless of the enemy fusillade. Later as the task force moved further on, it encountered a hostile roadblock. Skillfully deploying his troops to furnish protecting fire, Sergeant Bledsoe charged the obstacle with hand grenades and rifle fire, successfully clearing the road and allowing the column to continue on. When the tank-infantry unit approached its objective, the enemy defending the area offered stubborn resistance. Sergeant Bledsoe, once more astutely maneuvering his riflemen into a skirmish line, led them to engage the enemy and forced him to retreat, resulting in the successful seizure of the important junction. The aggressive and gallant leadership displayed by Sergeant Bledsoe reflects the highest credit upon himself and the military service.
