The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Robert J. Bartosh (ASN: US-572221000), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company A, 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Korea. Near Majon-Ni, Korea, on 29 November 1950, the squad in which Corporal Bartosh was an automatic rifleman, was ambushed by heavy enemy forces from a position 15 to 20 feet away. With complete disregard for his own personal safety, he immediately began to return fire from an open position, although his automatic rifle had to be operated manually initially. In spite of the intense fire from superior enemy forces he continued to return fire, covering the withdrawal of his squad to safety. Only after his squad reached more covered positions did he withdraw himself. As a result of this action, he enabled his squad to withdraw to more covered positions without a casualty. The gallantry displayed by Corporal Bartosh on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
