The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant James W. Barr (ASN: RA-13319959), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the Medical Company, 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 22 September 1950, near Haman, Korea, the company to which Sergeant Burr was attached as Aidman was attacked by a large hostile force. During the ensuing action two men were seriously wounded and lay in an exposed area. Crossing open terrain under direct enemy observation he made two successive trips to evacuate the men to safety. Sergeant Barr’s gallant actions are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the Medical Service, and the United States Army.
