The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Sandro A. Barone (ASN: 0-1334531), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 3d Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 7 August 1950, when an enemy force penetrated the company perimeter near Haman, Korea, and subjected the command post to a hail of small arms fire which wounded the company commander, Lieutenant Barone crawled toward the hostile position, threw several hand grenades into the enemy and routed them. Lieutenant Barone’s courageous actins and exemplary leadership reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
