The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Specialist Fourth Class Randall R. Stults (ASN: RA-16889898), United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy in the Republic of Vietnam. Specialist Fourth Class Stults distinguished himself by valorous actions on 20 June 1968 on the Dong Nai River near Long Binh. Specialist Stults voluntarily exposed himself to great danger by helping to control and suppress a fire at a quartermaster fuel jetty. Disregarding his safety, he manned firefighting equipment in close proximity to the intense heat from two burning fuel barges that threatened to explode at any time. At one point, he jumped onto one of the blazing craft to kick into the river a fuel drum which appeared to be leaking gas and endangering the lives of his fellow fire fighters. Specialist Fourth Class Stults’ heroic actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
