    Permanent Order 67-038

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Executive Order 11046, 24 August 1962, takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Sergeant Joshua Nicholas Deases, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as the Tactical Human Intelligence Team Leader for Mehtar Lam Provincial Reconstruction Team in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM VII on 2 November to 3 November 2006. With disregard for his own personal safety and under enemy fire, Sergeant Deases distinguished himself by maneuvering a vehicle blocking the path of the convoy. He subsequently helped move a disabled HMMWV from the only egress route available to the convoy while taking enemy fire in an ambush kill zone. Sergeant Deases did not hesitate to assist in providing immediate medical attention to nine wounded Coalition Forces and Afghan National Army personnel while his convoy’s patrol base was receiving enemy fire. Sergeant Deases’ courageous conduct while under enemy fire reflects great credit upon himself, Combined Task Force Spartan, Combined Joint Task Force 76, and the United States Army.
