The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Major James W. Dennehy, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States covering more than 15 years in the United States Coast Guard Reserve, the United States Army Reserve, and the Army National Guard, including a succession of key assignments during eight years as a member of the Judge Advocate General’s Corps, from November 2003 to August 2011. His outstanding duty performance culminated in his highly successful service as Brigade Judge Advocate for the 197th Fires Brigade, which included deployment to Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, and in his selection to attend the 60th Graduate Course at The Judge Advocate General’s School in Charlottesville, Virginia. Throughout his entire career, he expressed an extremely positive attitude toward service to the nation, a readiness to embrace the most difficult tasks, and remarkable motivation to seek increasingly demanding positions of responsibility. His superb duty performance will remain an inspiration for members of the Judge Advocate General’s Corps. Major Dennehy’s exemplary performance reflects great credit upon him, the Judge Advocate General’s Corps, and the United States Army.
