The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Field Artillery) Marvin Edward Lefebvre (Lefebre) (ASN: 0-5427668), United States Army, for gallantry in action. Captain Lefebvre distinguished himself by heroic actions on 23 December 1969, while serving as the Battalion Artillery Liaison Officer for the 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in the Republic of Vietnam. When elements of the 3d Brigade came in contact with a large enemy force, Captain Lefebvre immediately flew to the contact area. When he learned that a friendly soldier had been seriously wounded in the action, Captain Lefebvre immediately ordered his aircraft to land in the contact area. With complete disregard for his own safety, Captain Lefebvre exposed himself to the hail of fire as he ran through the bullet swept area to the aid of the fallen soldier. Captain Lefebvre then made a makeshift stretcher and carried him back through the bullet swept area to the helicopter to be evacuated to a medical facility. His valorous actions were responsible for saving the life of a fellow soldier. Captain Lefebvre’s bravery, aggressiveness, and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, the 25th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
