Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 189 (July 16, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Frank W. Way (ASN: 37773139), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action on 23 February 1945, in Germany. Although enemy fire pinned down their platoon, Private Way and his comrades refused to be deterred but advanced in the face of the direct fire and overran one position, capturing four snipers. They searched the buildings of a town for another sniper under incessant fire until they had killed him. Private Way was moving back to his platoon when he was caught in a murderous mortar concentration and immediately killed. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Way, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
