The President of the United States of America, authorized by Executive Order 11046, 24 August 1962, takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal to Captain Stephen Joseph Murray, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious achievement in support of actions against a hostile force in the Persian Gulf from 17 January 1991 through 24 March 1991, while assigned to 1st Corps Support Command, XVIII Airborne Corps, Saudi Arabia. Captain Murray’s performance in combat support operations was a key factor in enabling the XVIII Airborne Corps to assist in restoring the world security goals of the United Nations. His devotion to duty, aggressiveness, and ability to excel while under great pressure contributed significantly to the successful accomplishment of his unit’s mission. Captain Murray’s outstanding performance in support of the combat mission is in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflects great credit upon him, the XVIIII Airborne Corps, and the United States Army.
