The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal to Technician Fifth Grade Edwin E. Bloomfield (ASN: 36876645), United States Army, for heroic achievement in action on 19 February 1945, in the vicinity of Bilesgueraviller, France. While under fire during the attack, Technician Fifth Grade Bloomfield assisted in adjusting artillery fire. After the objective had been taken, the enemy counter-attacked with armor and infantry. Although under heavy enemy fire, he continued to assist in directing the artillery fire which had to be placed close to his own infantry. His courage and disregard for personal safety initially aided in delaying the enemy counter-attack which was later repulsed.

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Bronze Star Medal to Technician Fifth Grade Edwin E. Bloomfield (ASN: 36876645), United States Army, for heroic achievement in action on 6 April 1945, in the vicinity of Bachner, Germany. Technician Fifth Grade Bloomfield was acting as reconnaissance sergeant of a forward observer section supporting Company F, 253d Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, when their position was subjected to intense enemy artillery, mortar, rocket and small arms fire. When a counter-attack developed, he heroically exposed himself to intense enemy fire and adjusted artillery fire on the counter-attacking enemy, causing numerous casualties. While withdrawing under fire, he voluntarily carried a seriously wounded infantryman to a medical aid station, thereby saving his life. Technician Fifth Grade Bloomfield’s heroism and courage are exemplify the finest traditions of the military service.
