The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Richard R. Gordy (AFSN: 0-3139384), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a F-105 Thunderchief Electronic Warfare Officer over North Vietnam on 10 August 1968. On that date, Captain Gordy flew a night, weather bombing mission against a heavily defended vital target. Persevering in the face of great danger and extremely adverse weather conditions, Captain Gordy succeeded in delivering his ordnance directly on the target while under fire from hostile forces. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Gordy reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
