The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain David Andrew Fiegel (AFSN: 0-3117888), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an AC-47 Navigator near Dak To, Republic of Vietnam on 25 May 1958. On that date, Captain Fiegel and crew closely supported a beleaguered United States Army Fire Support Base that had been viciously attacked by a numerically superior hostile force. Captain Fiegel pressed the attack in spite of intense anti-aircraft fire from hostile positions. He maintained constant radio communication with the ground forces and aided in delivering accurate firepower into the hostile positions. As a result the AC-47 crew as able to thwart the hostile attack which threatened the friendly position. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Fiegel reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
